Steal Their Looks: the Baby Sitter's Club

Last year, I threw myself a Babysitter's Club themed birthday party. I did this because I have somehow accidentally gotten a rep for being really into The Babysitter's Club by constantly talking about The Babysitters Club Club podcast, a comedy podcast about The Babysitter's Club that I'm addicted to.

To encourage my friends to dress up like the characters, I wrote this very goofy guide on how to steal the 'look' of each BSC girl. I'm sharing it here, for your comedic enjoyment. I hope you comedically enjoy!

~KRISTY~
- Babysitters club founder, a go getter, full of ideas. Coaches children's t-ball for fun on the weekends.
IS SHE GAY: Kristy is one hundred percent a soft butch lesbian. I'm so genuinely upset that she didn't have a girlfriend in the OG 90's run of these books. I feel like I deserve compensation because of this.
STEAL HER LOOK: Flannel, DENIM of any kind, baseball tees, ringer tees, any kind of sports jersey, free shirt you got at a 5k, backwards baseball cap, converse and/or practical hiking-type shoes.

~MARY ANN~
- Practical and organized, but VERY emotional crybaby. Kind of a know it all. Her dad makes her dress like a dying nun at all times and she is REQUIRED to wear her hair in two braided pigtails.
IS SHE GAY: Mary Ann has big straight energy tbh, but she's an ally.
STEAL HER LOOK: Aforementioned braids, cardigans, skirts that are at least knee length, shirts with peter pan collars, a locket probably? I feel like she would only be allowed to wear saddle shoes.

~CLAUDIA~
- Artsy and craftsy, makes all her own clothes and jewelry, super creative. has her own phone line so by default also has the highest social standing. Terrible at math. Loves junk food.
IS SHE GAY: Claudia is a bicon for sure. My dream future Claudia has a studio in New York where she handmakes her own clothing, jewelry, and pottery line, and she has a boyfriend and two girlfriends.
STEAL HER LOOK: OVERALLS, weird hair accessories (butterfly clips and headbands for dayssss), power clashing, patterns on patterns on patterns, bright colors, two different earrings at the same time. Outfits that follow elaborate themes, as if your middle school is also the MET gala (what a queen).

~STACEY~
- From New York, has diabetes (this feels irrelevant but is like 90% of her storylines), from New York, very all about boys, did I mention she is from New York and also that makes her better than you? Huge "fives need to listen when a ten is talking" energy.
IS SHE GAY: Stacey is straight, but after graduation she goes to NYU and all her friends are cool gay men.
STEAL HER LOOK: Leggings and a sweatshirt, whatever qualified as "athleisure" in the 90s, neon, very color coordinated looks right down to shoes and all accessories. Absolutely would crimp her hair. Refuses to be seen in public without earrings.

~DAWN~
- Super laid back, ~california cool~. Surfs for fun. Is vegetarian. Won't let kids play with toy weapons because weapons aren't toys. Looks like Malibu Barbie. Lives in a haunted old farmhouse
IS SHE GAY: Dawn "isnt attracted to genders, she's attracted to people."
STEAL HER LOOK: The color olive green, light wash denim, big flowy sweaters, shorts of any kind, dresses that look kind of like formless sacks, things intended to be worn as beach coverups but worn as normal clothing, anything sold at the store Marine Layer. Dawn wears a lot of Converse, when she's wearing shoes at all.

~JESSIE~
- Ballet dancer, knows ASL. Generally seems a lot more chill and level headed than any of the other babysitters. Has a baby brother named Squirt and she helps take care of him. Feels like the type of friend who would call you out on your bullshit, but would do it gently.
IS SHE GAY: Jessie is bisexual. I don't have any evidence for this, I just feel it in my bones.
STEAL HER LOOK; Dance type clothing, hair bun, velvet scrunchies, lil skirt, leggings, athletic clothes, subdued tones.

~MALLORY~
Redhead, loves to write, horse girl. Has five million siblings. Great at making friendship bracelets. Seems incredibly messy and impulsive, but like she would be a loyal friend.
IS SHE GAY: Mallory is a messy lesbian, all she talks about is how she loves girls and as an adult she would write lesbian erotica guarenteed.
STEAL HER LOOK: Dresses like a camp counselor. Cargo shorts but make em cute (??), so many friendship bracelets, glasses, hiking boots, lots of fun t shirts, strikes me as someone who would prob wear a visor.

~SHANNON KILBOURNE, PRIVATE SCHOOL GIRL~
- Rich bitch, mean to Kristy, they have a rivalry they eventually solve (romantic tension anyone??). She lives in a big ass mansion and has a fluffy ass dog and her family feels Scandinavian??
IS SHE GAY: High femme lesbian.
STEAL HER LOOK: Fancy school uniform. Blazer, button down, plaid skirt, knee socks, sweater, etc. If not that she would one hundo percent be dressed designer and she really feels like a headband kinda gal for some reason.

~ LOGAN BRUNO~
- Mary Anne's boyfriend. From the south, generally speaking? Loves mary anne. Doesn't really have a lot of personality beyond that (sorry Logan).
IS HE GAY: I decided he is bi because I want him to be.
STEAL HIS LOOK: Dresses like a cowboy, tucks his shirt into his jeans, winning smile.

~ABBY~
TRUTHFULLY I don't remember enough about this character to create a good image of her but she was jewish and she played soccer? Would have been in BBYO, probably. She has an identical twin sister who is mostly irrelevant. I just googled her to source content and she plays violin and soccer and seems like a real busy gal with lots of extracurriculars.
IS SHE GAY: I'm gonna hit you with a light yes on this one because it feels right to me, but sound off in the comments if you're an Abby superfan and have opinions.
STEAL HER LOOK: Also a headband kinda gal tbh, wears a lot of fun floral dresses, seems like someone who would wear crushed velvet (#90s) but honestly...not in a cute way? In like, a kindergarten teacher in a floor length skirt/outfit a religious fundamentalist would go to church in kind of a way.
